Lean Manufacturing
Lean manufacturing is like building a toy with the least amount of waste possible. During manufacturing a sandwich, customers want it to be of good quality and not have any mistakes. Also, need to make sure it only uses what is needed and does not waste anything. That is what lean manufacturing is all about - making things in the best way possible, with the least amount of waste. It is like making a sandwich without any mistakes and only using the ingredients it needs.
Lean manufacturing is a smart and tidy way of making things that use fewer resources and make less waste as we mentioned before. It started with Henry Ford, who made cars quickly and cheaply, but only one kind, years back. He started the concept of Lean manufacturing resulting in the utilization of fewer resources and hence reducing the overall cost of production
Later Toyota improved its system by adding new ideas, such as making what the customers ordered, using signals to control production, switching from one part to another quickly, checking and fixing the quality, and finding and solving problems. Toyota’s system was called the Toyota Production System (TPS) and was very successful. Many other companies copied it and called it lean manufacturing.
